Malick requires the lack of his brother as matter, factoring the development of the universe into his soul-browsing work out. He casts movie stars, but refuses to deal with them as such, stripping them of their strains and the chance to “act,” whilst privileging impressionistic fragments from his own memory (plus empathy among the dinosaurs!).
